POSTER DESIGN

Reality circumscribed to the point of madness

Az őrületig körbeírt valóság

risograph poster

primarily inspired by László Krasznahorkai's novel The Melancholy of Resistance | 2025

The poster was created for an exhibition that opened in Szentendre, Hungary, in the summer of 2025, featuring the narrative universe of László Krasznahorkai, who has since won the Nobel Prize in Literature. Using risography, I wanted to create a collage-based poster that combines familiar motifs and text fragments into a single work. I wanted to create a universe from them, much like how his oeuvre is composed of these recurring details.

At first, I found the uniquely vivid colors of riso prints strange in contrast to the bleak world of the novels, but not anymore, given the boundary-pushing nature of the texts, which pose a challenge to readers. The posters were deliberately designed using two colors, always one cool and one warm color. Therefore, I had to split the black-and-white collage, which was designed as a single unit, into two printing plates, which caused me some headaches.

The first series sold out halfway through the exhibition, so we decided to reprint them. I definitely didn't want to print them in the same colors, because I saw an opportunity in new color variations. The first series was made in Teal – Bright Red, and the second, so that it wouldn't be a complete reprint, in Medium Blue – Fluor Orange. The prints are A3 size and made on environmentally friendly 250 gram Crush Corn paper. The prints were made at Risoplant in Budapest and are available at the Ferenczy Museum Center in Szentendre or from me via private message.
